How the long wallet is built
A bifold that folds along its long side. The outer and the inner shell are each one piece across the fold, the outer one 3 mm longer to reach round it.
The upper half carries a pocket panel with four pockets on it. Each pocket is one piece across the whole wallet, divided into two card slots by stitching, with its mouth toward the outer long edge, away from the fold.
The half is stitched up its two short sides and along its outer long edge through every layer, and stays free at the fold. Bills go in at the fold, behind the pocket panel, and lie the full 190 mm of the wallet: the rows that divide the card slots go through the pockets and their panel only, never the shells.
The lower half starts plain. In the Builder, the + under Lower gives it the same pockets, turned round.
Print it at full size
Three pages on A4 or US Letter, every part whole on its page. Print at 100 % (“actual size”), not “fit to page”. The first page has a 50 mm square: measure it before you cut anything. If it is off, see how to print leather patterns to scale at home.
The stitch holes are spaced 3.38 mm. For hole counts along any seam at that spacing, see the 3.38 mm stitch spacing chart.
Make it your own in the Builder
The PDF is this pattern exactly as you see it. The Builder is where it becomes yours: change a number, and the pattern, the 3D view and the parts list follow.
- Size. Drag the edges of the drawing, or type the width and height.
- Pockets. Add or remove them on each side, change how far they step, give one pocket its own height or a thumb cut-out.
- Stitching. Pick a diamond, French slit or round chisel and its spacing. The holes still line up through every layer.
- Leather. Set the thickness and colour of each part and see the wallet in 3D, open and closed, with a card in every slot.
- Card slots across. One, two or three in each pocket, and pockets on the lower half too.
Start from this long wallet and change what you like. It opens as your own copy, with nothing to install.
Common questions
What size is the finished long wallet?
190 × 95 mm closed (7.48 × 3.74 in), and 190 × 190 mm lying open. The corners are rounded 5 mm. Every one of these is a number you can change in the Builder.
How many cards does it hold?
It has eight card slots, each taking a standard 85.6 × 54 mm card lying across. In the Builder you can add or remove pockets on each side, and its 3D view puts a card in every slot so you see how far each one shows.
What leather thickness is the pattern for?
It is drawn for 1.2 mm and 0.8 mm leather: the thicker for the outer shell, the thinner for the inner shell and the pockets. The outer shell's extra length at a fold is worked out from those, so set your own thickness in the Builder before you print.
What stitch spacing does it use?
3.38 mm between holes, 791 holes in all, set for a diamond chisel. The holes of every piece land on the holes of the piece under it. In the Builder you can pick another chisel, French slit or round, and another spacing.
Is it free, and do I need an account?
It is free and needs no account. The PDF downloads from this page, and the Builder keeps what you change in your browser. A free account keeps your designs on every device you sign in on.
